The newest version of the Super 80 Performance Yacht as an open "Roadster" has arrived at its new full time port of Sarasota Florida.
After a successful maiden voyage at an average cruise speed of 50 knots, the new owner was completely overwhelmed with his new boat. With a top speed of 57 knots this boat can cover some serious distance.
The Roadster features an all new layout above and below decks with an open air feel all around.

Take a look at the photos on this site and stay tuned for our open house party dates to be held in Sarasota for an official debut.

More good news at the Show!

The Nor-Tech 427 V makes its first show appearance!

The all new 427 which debuted this summer takes the 3900 Super V to the next level. More style and more features combine to bring you a V bottom like no other.

Starting with the helm, we have utilized the same platform from the 4000 Roadster. This gives you the option for steering from either side with controls between the seats. The GPS is mounted in the center, convenient for either position and you can opt for a screen as large as 15"! For those hot muggy days we've even installed large fans at waist level to keep you cool.

To the starboard side there is an aft facing jump seat with a built in cooler below the cushion. The back rest opens to reveal a large fender storage closet for easy docking needs. The center position of the helm seats provides for a larger cockpit to move around to either side of the boat.

A new recessed sun lounge leads to another new feature, the stern trunk. Slide the lock from the large swim platform and a large lid opens to reveal the molded trunk space. Storage for the dive ladder, running light, dock lines, etc is both convenient and stylish. The new larger swim platform extends beyond the drives and props for safe water access.

Below decks there is a much larger head compartment with plenty of headroom, flushing toilet, sink and a pull out shower.

On the performance side the hull bottom has been refined to deliver a better ride and performance than we have seen before. With twin Mercury 700's and NXTs test results have yielded top speeds in the mid 100MPH range while still demonstrating strong acceleration prowess. All of this is combined with surprisingly good fuel economy.

11/1/09 - 390 Sport

Nor-Tech 390 Sport Center Console.

Designed from the ground up, the all new 390 sport arrives in time for its debut at the 2009 Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show.

Our goal was to offer the best all around center console to date.  The 390 offers performance, cruising comfort and hard core fishing in a package one would expect from Nor-Tech. The first boat in the series features a 7’ cuddy cabin, forward lounge seating, a large wind protected helm station with the head in the console, integrated large hard top, triple helm seating with an aft facing seat with storage and a fold in rear bench seat. For the fisherman there are large fish boxes, transom live well, bait prep and plenty of rod holders.  This one of a kind boat will surely stand alone in its class.

This boat will also display the first ever Smartcraft DTS controls by Livorsi.   Performance style controls which work with any Mercury DTS engine and Livorsi Vantage View Smartcraft gauges.  The 390 dash will showcase two Garmin 4212’s interfaced to the Smartcraft MercMonitor which converts Smartcraft information to NMEA2000 and J1939 information onto any compatible screen or display.   It will even display Drives and Tabs.

Performance options range from twin outboards to quads. Additionally, customers can have their 390 equipped with diesel power.

Look for the next boat in the series that will offer an open bow with lounge seating and a large forward facing sun lounge ahead of the console.

Nor-Tech thriving during the Downturn:

In spite of the Global slowdown, Nor-Tech continues to grow and expand with new orders and the development of new models.

80 Series Performance Yacht:

Hull number 2 is making progress. This second version commissioned by a long time customer in Sarasota is moving rapidly through the fiberglass department. This second hull is a variation of the first 80. An open cockpit design gives the look and feel of a true performance boat and less of a traditional yacht. A new cabin floor plan is being incorporated below decks. Without the roof and heavy yacht décor materials this second version will come in lighter. This time the boat will be powered by CAT ACERT engines producing 1850HP each. A top speed in the mid 60 MPH range is expected. Our goal is to have this new boat on display at the 2009 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show.

427 Super Vee

We are near completion of the new version of the existing 3900 Super V. This boat incorporates new exterior styling from the helm all the way back to the new transom design. Updated  features include a larger head compartment, twin helm with dual steering, large center mount GPS, stand up cat style bolsters and an extended swim platform with a built in utility garage. With all of these enhancements and  a powertrain of Mercury 700’s, this combination will be hard to beat.

390 Center Console:

With the growing popularity of larger center consoles Nor-Tech had decided to offer a production version of their own. New from the ground up this 10’ beam vessel features a hull design that offers a dry smooth ride. Available in any combination of twin to quad outboards or twin diesels, buyers can equip the boat to fit their lifestyle. The first hull will go into the rig shop the week of June 22, 2009 and expect to start performance testing  after the July 4th Holiday. A backlog of orders is starting to accumulate as the anticipation of this model begins to grow. We look for this model to be quite hot in the coming future.

4000 Supercat Roadster:

Hull number 5 is in the rig shop. Since the introduction at the 2009 Miami Show, orders for the new boat have exceeded expectations.

The 4th boat shipped just last week and we still have a backlog of orders for more.

July 1, 2008 - Key West Record Run

Bob Barnhart and Nor-Tech conquer the Gulf.

On Wednesday June 11th, Bob Barnhart along with Nor-Tech’s Terry Sobo, Powerboat Magazine’s Kevin Cooper, photographer Jay Nichols and friend Hans Haedelt departed at 7:19 AM to break the Key West to Cancun speed record.

The boat, a custom pleasure Nor-Tech 5000 V powered by Triple 480HP Yanmar diesels with a top speed of 75 MPH. This is Bob’s third Nor-Tech 5000. The first two were gas powered and considerably faster. Although he loved the boats he was ready to build something with more reliability and a greater cruising range.  Lurking in the back of was mind was his desire to go after the record established by Fountain. He approached Terry with the idea in the spring of 2007. He and Terry tried to convince another customer that had a new diesel 5000 to make the attempt but the timing for all was not right. Bob was ready for a new boat built to his specification but kept in mind his goal to have something capable of making the crossing.

Breaking the record requires a boat than can average at least 50 MPH, have a range of at least 400 miles and can handle the open ocean. Bob felt the 5000 was up to the challenge.

Besides the power the boat has a few noteworthy options.  A Garmin 5212 GPS and a 4208, Autopilot, Bow Thruster, High end Sound and Video System and many other luxury features.

So with 400 gallons of fuel in the main tank and another 42 in plastic jugs strapped to the swim platform, it was off to Cancun. In spite of a very rough crossing and an injury to one of the crew members, the old record of 8 hours and 37 minutes was broken with a new time of 8 hours and 6 minutes. On a side note the established record was set to Isla Mujueres which is slightly west of Cancun. Bob wanted to establish another record to Cancun itself which resulted in a time of 8 hours and 26 minutes. In addition to breaking the record the boat still had fuel in the tank and the reserve was untapped.

The plan was to turn around and return to Key West the next day but the weather and sea conditions would not permit. So the entire crew returned home by air. On Saturday June 14th Bob and Terry flew back to Cancun to attempt the return on Sunday. They were met this time by APRA’s Pierre Savior who would sanction the return time. There was no established record for Cancun to Key West.

Some Customs complications arose that delayed the departure. During the downtime Bob took a nasty fall and injured himself. It was not known at the time but he actually tore the rotator cuff in his right shoulder. He didn’t think it was that bad so being the trooper he decided to attempt the run back. After a few crushing waves and some pounding he realized that it would be best to wait a day and hope for better sea conditions and a chance to heal

The run back on Monday started off with some pretty big seas but then it calmed as they headed west. At one point they were an hour and half ahead of the previous record crossing. However the hopes of an easy crossing quickly evaporated as the coastline of Cuba approached. Seas began to build until it became impossible to maintain a consistent fast cruise.  That coupled with a few complications cost the team considerable time. However with all of that they were still able to travel from the Cancun point to Key West harbor in 8 hours and 25 minutes. Again without tapping into the fuel reserves.

Congratulations to Bob and the team on the new records and his determination. It’s a proud moment for Nor-Tech.

5/8/2008 - Powerboat Award

For the first time in it's history, Nor-Tech has received an Award for Product Excellence. 3900 Super Vee, Powered by twin Yanmar 480's

Powerboat Magazine made the formal presentation at their annual awards banquet in Los Angeles over the weekend. However we received a special visit today on May 8th. Bob Teague, Victoria Newton and Kevin Cooper stopped by to make a special presentation to the staff and crew.

The award is for "Outstanding Offshore V-Bottom Workmanship". As Bob said this is a category that's dear to him. He stated that it's hard to make a diesel package look good but our workmanship on the 39 V was truly the finest of any of the boats at this year's test. From the rigging to wiring, upholstery, paint and so on, it was superb. He pointed out though that to qualify for any award the boat also has to have outstanding performance. The 39 delivered on all points.

Thank you to Powerboat Magazine.

NOR-TECH Hi-Performance Boats offers Performance Boat School as Standard Equipment
Fort Myers, Fl October 18, 2007 - Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats and Tres Martins Performance Boat School are pleased to announce with the purchase of every new Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boat, a certified course at the Tres Martin Performance Boating School is included. Now, new Nor-Tech owners will have the opportunity to learn from highly skilled professionals and learn how to safely enjoy and maintain their new boat.

Tres Martin, a renowned high performance racing champion, started in the boating industry in the late 70s. He has numerous racing victories including World and National Championships.  Brad Schoenwald, a career Coast Guard Officer, licensed master is trained in instructional technologies.  The Tres Martin Performance Boating School has filled a need in our industry by teaching boat owners the proper and safe operation of their vessels and is the only school in the country recognized by major insurance companies for this segment of the recreational boating market.

The session begins by covering the basics of boating safety and related equipment, from proper lifejackets and fire extinguishers to ignition stop switch lanyards. Topics include rules of the waterway, boat maintenance, occupant safety and a complete explanation of the dynamics of hull design. Time is spent on the specifics of trimming, tabbing, acceleration, deceleration, turning, wave and wake crossing and how to take corrective action in the event of a problem.  On day two, the students get a first hand demonstration of everything they have learned in a real world environment. The students are shown how to operate essential equipment, conduct pre-launch checks, basic maintenance, and potential problem areas.  Then each student must properly execute all of the performance fundamentals and complete maneuvers in their boats until they are able to demonstrate proper execution to the satisfaction of the instructors.

"Nor-Tech is a premier High Performance Boat Builder and should receive significant recognition for demonstrating their commitment to safety and the well being of their customers"
11/13/2007 - Key West Poker Run

Thanks to Stu and Jackie Jones and the rest of the Florida Powerboat Club for another great event.

Nor-Tech was particulary well represented this year with 35 registered teams consisting of members from the US, Canada, Norway and the U.K.

This year the talk of the docks was the all new 50 Roadster cat "Canada Thrust" powered by twin T53 - 7 Turbines. That boat was also joined by the turbine powered 50' "Aqua Doll" and "Warbird" catamarans.

We would also like to thank the many customers and friends for their continued support of Nor-Tech and making our presence known throughout the Poker Run community.

Nor-Tech has released the third version in the series of 43’, 47’ and 50’ SUPERCATS.
The first boat to hit the water is a quad engine 5000 Roadster. This third model shares the basic design cues of the GTR (Retractable Hard Top). While giving passengers an open feel it has a new look and more protection from the elements than found on the previous boats.

Below decks is accessed through two flush mounted deck hatches. The starboard side contains a porti-potti and a sink with a pull out shower. The port side has ample storage with a large four place fender rack.
The generous engine bay was designed to accommodate twin or quad engines and an option for turbines.
